The Johnson County Cemetery Association was created and organized for benevolent purposes. These specific purposes are:

  • To locate and maintain the abandoned cemeteries of early settlers of Johnson County,Texas.
  • To maintain the grounds and outside fences, if they are present at this time, or to replace or erect new fences as funds are available.
  • To collect and use such contributions as may be forth-coming for the maintenance of the historic old cemeteries.
The Johnson County Cemetery Association is the first organization of its kind in the state. It was organized through the long, arduous efforts of Doris and LeRoy Lanfear. Several fallen headstones have already been repaired by the group. The association furnishes mowing equipment to the Johnson County Prisoner Work Program to be used for the specific purpose for mowing those cemeteries which have no associations, or lack the funds for mowing. Members of the association attend court cases involving cemetery vandalism to push for harsher penalties for vandals.
